Description

Edinburgh castle view from Princes Street Gardens,

2 hours of detailed pencil sketching (0.7 mechanical pencil) in the cold, it wasnt as cold as it can get, but i wasnt moving, so i when i got up to leave i was frozen stiff. and then 2 hours of inking (0.5 0.2 0.1 0.05 ink pens) in my warm flat :)

still it was fun, and watching busy people hurrying to get to work or whatnot pass by, looking at me, and then looking up to see what i was drawing was hugely entertaining, i mean, how can you not notice that huge thing in the sky ?!

before i got there nobody was stopping to look at the view, since i stopped there to draw, everyone just stood in wonder and gazed, many took pictures, some few just sat besides me and looked from me to the view...

and when the "professionals" showed up with their fancy equipment i laughed *inside me* all the more, (and they gave me the angriest looks, as if to say, we dont have the patience to draw in the cold so fu) they needed a mega huge lens to capture the image i was drawing, yes indeed they took it in a second, and yes it was colourful, but they themselves did not see the detail their camera lens could see, they did not see all the secret walls and gates that i saw when i was drawing, they might see it later when they pass the image into their pc, but that moment ? i doubt it, also their equipment was probaply worth more than my laptop is,

Nevertheless i recreated that moment with more emotion with nothing more than pen and paper, and made the place, a simple path, more romantic than any Venice could possibly be, couples came and sat near me, or stood by watching me as i drifted in and out of my artistic orgasms, and i added all of this into my library of special memories.

I treasure each and every landscape drawing ive done, not for the quality of the drawing, but for the quality of the moment, the special feeling of connecting with nature, connecting with my subject. And the feeling of euphoria when others, the public meets my eyes, and they see that crazed look, that look that speaks more words than any man could utter. when they see the mini dances i do, as my favourite song kicks in my mp3 player, and my hand travels across the paper like a vessel of Art, leaving behind a trail of colour, or in this case ink.

Ill be doing alot more of these landscapes, dont know if ill revert to my 09 speed sketch style, currently i like highly detailed drawings, but nonetheless, i believe i look awesome when im doing them, and i know for sure that i feel awesome whilst doing them, so hey its a win win situation.
maybe if i become good enough ill try getting into the Edinburgh Festival or something haha :)

Also the woman i drew, now that i think of it, is the only photographer with what looked like quality gear, that actually took one picture, then stood there and gazed at the view for more than 5 minutes, something that most other people and pro photographers did not do, this person and a couple of others, i respect.

faves and comments are always welcome, and a bit of constructive criticism would be greatly accepted :)

God what a wanker i was
